Beginner Blacksmith 2 day Workshops
price: $285/student plus 5% tax
Number of Students: 4
Classes are for 16+ years old
Projects; Day One: Hooks, Bottle Opener
Day Two: Small Knife OR Choice
Each weekend will consist what is outlined in the One Day Course PLUS of one of the following projects
to be completed in 2 six to seven hour shop days
All materials are included in the cost of the course.
All dates are tentative and subject to cancellation if there are not enough students to proceed.
A 50% deposit is required to get your spot, and prices are subject to taxes

Our usual 2nd day project~ Small knife from a coil spring
other projects to chose from:
Wall mounted Coat Rack for 4 Coats
Letter Opener
Dinner Bell with Hanging Bracket
Fireplace poker
Safety:
Required: Steel toe shoes, heavy work clothes and a (optional) light cap.
Supplied: Safety Glasses, ear protection and Gloves
We will limit as much as possible the use of powered tools during the 2 days but there may a need, depending on the project, to employ more modern techniques, such as the band saw and the drill press.
Breakdown of course, hour by hour (remember, this is an outline)
Day 1
Hour 1
General Safety and shop layout with explanation of tools and blacksmith processes.
Hour 2
Design and measuring, material choices
(breaking into 2 teams for the remainder of the course)
Hour 3
Cutting and prepping material, layout and construction methods
Hour 4
Forge safety, tong handling and hammer and striking techniques
Break for lunch (1 hour with study books ie: New Edge of the Anvil)
Hour 6 and 7
Forging and shaping.
This part of the day will be similar to the One Day course
and all techniques used will be applied to the 2nd day project
Day 2
Hour 8
Forging and shaping
Due to time constraints and added hardness of high carbon steel used,
I will forge knife blanks from coil spring using the power hammer for those who choose to make a knife.
Every hammer mark and shape of the final product will be 100% the work of the student.
Hour 9 and 10
Assembling and adjusting or Hardening
Break for lunch (1 hour with study books ie: The Complete Modern Blacksmith)
Hour 12
Cleaning and waxing/ tempering
Hour 13
Q & A (aka; AMA)

- Swaging
- Punching
- Forge welding ( advanced work not covered)
